After Idalia hit our county, it looked like a warzone. I had no idea what our district was going to do. In my head our tiny 3-man maintenance team was going to be responsible for the cleanup and reconstruction of our schools and properties. Thank goodness for FSBIT and the Emergency Advantage Program, they stepped in right away to guide us and take action. Two and a half years later they are still helping me with documentation and support. I truly do not know what we would have done without them!
The FSBIT Emergency Advantage program proved essential to DeSoto County's recovery after Hurricane Ian. Because all major recovery partners - including SynergyNDS and key emergency contractors -were already pre-positioned through FSBIT, the district was able to begin damage assessment, stabilization, and repairs immediately after the storm. In fact, when I was conducting my initial walkthrough of DeSoto High School, Jason from Royal plus hod semi-trucks rolling into the school parking lot. This eliminated delays, reduced costs, and ensured that critical facilities were secured and operational far sooner than would have been possible through traditional procurement. The coordinated project management, documentation support, and expertise provided through the program also strengthened the district's FEMA reimbursement process. Overall, FSBIT's Emergency Advantage program was a force-multiplier that accelerated DeSoto County Schools' return to normal operations.
